The CNE!

The opening of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) always signifies the end of summer in Toronto.  The CNE is only open for 17 days a year ending on Labour Day holiday with its famous air show.  I’ve never been to a state fair or any of the Canadian fall fairs but I imagine it to be similar.  One of the main attractions of the CNE is the food and its Food Building! With that in mind, my dragonboat team decided to go and check it out.  This year’s food inspiration was BACON!!!  So of course, we had to try as many bacon items as we could – many concoctions combining both the sweet and salty palettes.  My favourite item was Bacon Nation, the Bacon Explosion sandwich: bacon stuffed sausage, bacon, Jack Daniel’s BBQ sauce, lettuce and tomato on a hamburger bun!  It was absolutely delicious!!!  There would be no way I could eat the entire sandwich but perfect to share with 3 others.  Other funky food items included: deep fried cola, deep fried butter, the hotdog eclair and the Nutella BBBLT (also offered by Bacon Nation) – had a bite of the BBLT and I have to admit, it didn’t work for me ….and I love nutella 🙁  If you are in the Toronto area over the next week, I definitely recommend checking out the CNE – some of the best local food trucks are here as well and who can get enough of cotton candy and snow cones, right A?
