Food Truck Eats 2012
I’ve been MIA this past long weekend pre-occupied with my other passion – Dragonboating! I had training camp for 2 days and the weather was just fabulous which made having to get up early bearable 🙂 And as if getting sunburned on both saturday and sunday weren’t enough, I headed off to the Food Truck Eats festival on hosted by Peller Estates in Niagara-on-the-lake. We’re still very much in the infancy stages of the food truck scene in Toronto and this was my first official taste of what some of these trucks offer – and it was worth the long line-ups! I sampled about 8 items from various trucks and some of my favourites include the lobster roll offered by Buster’s Sea Cove! The lobster was fresh with red onion and a squeeze of lemon atop a classic top-cut hotdog bun toasted with butter on both sides. However, my favourite has to be from our homegrown Caplansky’s Deli Truck. The special of the day – his infamous pickled tongue taco with jicama slaw, so you know I had to try it. It was so tender and very similar to corn beef in taste. But what blew me away were his maple all-beef bacon donuts – 3 for $3. These were little bite-size cake donuts and when you took a bite you get hit with cubes of salty goodness!
YUMMY where was the wine truck ? :)
This was an awesome event...you got some great variety in the food you tried! I think I missed out on the doughnuts :( Next time. I just posted about this event, too. Check it out!
