Winterlicious: The Chase Fish & Oyster
Toronto has been extremely busy over the past two weeks with the NBA All-Star Weekend, Winterlicious 2016 (our version of Restaurant Week) and the Canadian International Auto Show. This winter there were a few restaurants on the list that I’ve been wanting to try and what better way to do it than during Winterlicious. The first one was The Chase Fish & Oyster. Located in a restored low rise building and a line up of valet-parked high end cars out front (even on a Wednesday night), the restaurant has a beautiful interior first floor and a roof top space that I have yet to see – I’ll be back in the summer. Of course as the name suggests, the menu is mostly seafood but there were vegetarian and meat options available. I had the salmon tartare to start and then the arctic char for my main dish but the featured cocktail for the week, the Shipwreck, is was stood out for me. Not too sweet and made with blackcurrant liquor (my favourite spirit) and garnished with a dehydrated pineapple slice, it was delicious. Although the dishes were decent, I loved the vibe and I think the next time I go (and there will be a next time), it’ll be for their oysters and fish & chips!
