Restaurant of the Month: Bent
I haven’t had a restaurant of the month worth writing about lately but last week, my dinner with three of my girlfriends at Bent Restaurant was one of the best dinner experiences I have had in awhile! Right when you enter the light-filled restaurant we were taken care of, starting with our water glasses never being empty and crumbs being swept off the table after every course. I found out about the special Bent-O event via email – how do you say no to a seven course tasting menu for two for ONLY $35….you heard me, $35 for a bento full of Susur Lee creations! Ever since the restaurant opened it has been on my bucket list and so it was perfect timing. Out of all seven courses, my favourite was the oyster sake shot! I’m not a big fan of raw oysters, I think its the texture that gets to me. But the way Susur prepares the oyster here, the texture isn’t a factor and the flavours of the shot take over with punches of asian flavours like ponzu (citrus vinegar), roe and sake – delicious! The lobster tacos were fabulous as well – crunchy taro chip shell stuffed with fresh lobster! Best of all, dessert was compliments of the chef! Definitely worth asking about (its not on the menu) – his banana chocolate cake was to die for, moist and so light…..seriously one of the fluffiest cakes I’ve had ever! The event has been extended until June 8th and if you go, you won’t be disappointed! Oh, and if you get a chance, check out his back wall full of vintage toys 🙂
