Singapore 2016: The Providore
First morning in Singapore after being on 2 flights and a total of 19 hours I was craving for some good coffee and fresh food. With the help of my trusty Lonely Planet guidebook we ended up at The Providore in the Mandarin Gallery Mall. With a casual and modern environment, the store is actually divided into two spaces: the store front with the deli, bakery and bar counters; the other is seating for the cafe. With the temperature going above 30 degrees celsius and 100% humidity, its no question I go for an iced coffee, a pain au chocolat and to ease my guilt, a bowl of organic muesli and yogurt. At first, I must admit, I landed in Singapore with a preconceived notion of the type of food the country had to offer but was surprised with the mix of Western and Asian food influenced by the countries that surround Singapore and its Ex-pat population. The pain au chocolat was buttery with layers of crisp pastry and a bitter chocolate centre, one of the best croissants I have had recently. And the combination of the toasted almond and cinnamon honey with the muesli and yogurt was a welcomed change from the mushy plane food.
