London: Afternoon Tea at Shangri-La
It was a very quick trip over the pond to London – 3.5 days, but in that short period of time I packed it with as much as I could. And the first thing I booked as soon as I decided I was going to London was afternoon tea. I knew there was no way I was going to get an opening at Claridges (London’s most popular hotel to spend a couple of hours sipping tea) and believe me, I did try – so next on my list of London’s best afternoon tea with a view: Shangri-La at the Shard. Having tea in a beautifully styled loft-like room with an east-west view of the Thames was wonderful, I was in awe of the view (it really was jaw-dropping). What is unique about the tea service at Shangri-La is that they offer the traditional English afternoon tea service and a South East Asian afternoon tea where the sweets, savoury and scones are all inspired by South East Asia. As much as it is interesting having dim-sum like dishes, my heart and taste buds still favour the classic coronation chicken and cucumber sandwiches that we know make up the classic afternoon tea in London.
