Birthday Celebrations @ Wvurst

Happy Birthday H!

I know it has been a few days since my last blog post – I was visiting Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) on business and I was able to sneak in a great meal there during my stay – will give details in my next post 🙂  However, this past saturday was my friend H’s birthday – I won’t say how old because frankly, we’re all getting a year older this year!  She loves a good beer and I thought we would check out a new beer hall/restaurant in the swanky King West neighborhood in Toronto.  Wvrst serves up some mean sausage and so they should with a name like that.  But not only are the sausages flavourful so are their duck fat fries!  Yes, you heard that right – fries, deep fried in duck fat! Since this was my first visit, I needed to stick with the basics and had their wild boar sausage (made with mushroom and tea) with sauerkraut and a side of duck fat fries with their sesame dipping sauce (a special for that night).  It was fantastic!

And if that wasn’t enough, we tried an Ontario crafted cider called Thornbury – light and crisp with a touch of sweetness, perfect to help wash down the meal!
